Practice Issues for the Physical Therapist Assistant
Practice Issues for the Physical Therapist Assistant
Reflection: PTA 1500 focused on many of
the values and professional behaviors needed for success as a
Physical Therapist Assistant. We learned about the Generic
Abilities/Professional Behaviors assessment tool, which outlines ten
traits needed in the field of physical therapy and allows students to
self-assess their skills and receive feedback from instructors. The
ten abilities are: commitment to learning, interpersonal skills,
communication skills, effective use of time and resources, use of
constructive feedback, problem solving, professionalism, responsibility,
critical thinking, and stress management. These are
all important skills to learn to become successful in any career and
in life. The ability I was most interested in was effective
communication; through this course I found that communicating well
aids in achieving proficiency of many of the other necessary skills.
I have attached the assignment I completed while working on the
communication unit of this course because it helped me realize the
importance of this skill, and gave me tools to assist in improving my
abilities.
